Church Planting Challenge

In the last 5 years the concept of Church Planting has become more widely known and it seems like each one of us is somehow connected to a church plant or at least knows a church planter. GCBA has led the way in our state for starting new churches. In 2000 the GCBA had 73 congregations and by the end of 2013 we grew to over 100 congregations! All I can say is, "Well Done!"

Church Planting is on the rise and this is great news because the need for new churches is greater than ever! Right now in Greene County there is only one church for every 2,745 residents. To quote Will Smith in his movie I AM LEGEND, we need to, "Keep lighting up the darkness because the ones trying to destroy this world are not taking a day off."

Church Planters. We need men and women who are willing to step out on faith and answer God's call to start a church. There has been a decline recently in the number of people willing to do this. I believe it's because word has gotten out that church planting is not easy. No Time, No Money, and No Health Insurance quickly become the way of life for a church planter. A church planter must find joy in being right in the center of God's will despite the circumstances.

The dynamics of church planting is changing. We need guys and gals who are willing to work a second or even third job to support their mission. We need planters who are willing to get down in the trenches and do ministry and not just open a door on Sunday mornings. If this is for you, I would love to meet with you.

Sponsoring Churches. The need is just as great for churches to strategically partner with church plants and church planters. There are many ways to be a sponsor. Most of them don't require writing a check every month. We need coaches and mentors. Would you be willing to come along side a church planter and help him through his journey? We also need space. Do you have an extra office or classroom that a planter could use throughout the week? Would you allow a planter to use a gathering space when you were not using it? We also need stuff. One church's trash can be a church planter's gold mine! Do you have old chairs, communion trays, baptism robes, offering plates, or children's toys lying around? If you do, I am sure we can find a new home.

Employers. We are looking for business owners who would be willing to work with us to employ our planters. If you are looking to hire a hard working individual and the hours are somewhat flexible and conducive to ministry type work, we would love to talk to you.

Prayer Warriors. We need people to pray. We need people who will spend time on their knees praying for our planters who experience great resistance from the enemy.

Greater things are yet to be done in our city! Please join us as we light up the darkness! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to talk church planting.

Many Blessings,

Craig Coppenbarger
Church Planting Consultant
